Accessibility
Accessibility isn't a box we tick at the end — it's part of the brief. A site about being prepared should be one that everyone can use, on whatever device is to hand.
What we aim for
We design and build to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. In practice, that means:
- large, readable type and generous spacing, with no information carried by colour alone;
- strong colour contrast between text and background;
- clearly visible keyboard focus, so the site is fully usable without a mouse;
- plain, well-structured headings that screen readers can navigate;
- layouts that reflow when you zoom in or use a small screen;
- respect for your “reduce motion” setting; and
- pages that print cleanly, so you can keep a paper copy.
Where we know we're not there yet
We'd rather be honest than claim perfection:
- the scope checker needs JavaScript to run; if it's switched off, the questions won't work, and you should refer to the written guides instead;
- this is an early site and some pages will improve as we test it more widely, including with assistive technologies such as screen readers.
Found a barrier? Tell us
If something on this site is hard to read, hard to operate, or simply doesn't work for you, we want to know — it's the fastest way for us to fix it. Email accessibility@wellinhand.co.uk, describe the problem and the page, and we'll aim to reply within five working days and put a fix in hand.
Standard
This statement reflects our aim to conform to WCAG 2.2 AA. It was last reviewed in June 2026 and we'll update it as the site changes.
